Histrionics 2017

For many, our history panel show is the highlight of the Festival. This video was taken at CVHF 2017 when we had Charlie Higson in the chair and John Sessions, Tracy Borman, Andy Zaltzman and Dan Snow on the panel.

Our ever-popular history panel show returns on Friday, 29th June 2018 with Fast Show comedian and author Charlie Higson as quizmaster. Returning team captains John Sessions and Dan Snow will be joined by Helen Castor and, for the first time, Al Murray. Sixty minutes of quickfire historical humour with new rounds and challenges for the teams. Tickets can be purchased here.

IQ2 Debate: Ancients v Moderns

Ancient History Matters More Than Modern History. A recording from the IQ2 Debate at CVHF on 29th June 2013 with Boris Johnson, Tom Holland, Dan Snow and Jeremy Black. Chair: Edward Stourton.

What have the Romans ever done for us? Monty Python’s eternal question is put to the vote in this year’s IQ2 debate. This dazzling cast of historians pitted their knowledge and wit against each other in arguing whether ancient or modern history is more instructive and relevant to the times we live in. In this blizzard of repartee in our second, annual IQ2 debate, the audience got to speak and vote on some of the critical questions of history.

Histrionics Quiz Show 2013

Recording from the CVHF Histrionics Quiz Show, Friday, 28th June 2013.

Our very own history quiz show which combines deep historical knowledge with razor-sharp wit. Devised by Justin Pollard (historian and writer of QI), Dan Snow and James Holland, this all-new comedy panel show will see Charlie Higson in the Chair, and two teams that include Ian Hislop, Dan Snow, Neil Oliver and Natalie Haynes. A hysterical historical quiz that will go down in our Festival history as one of the more outrageous and irreverent events we have put on..

It is already becoming something of a tradition for the Festival to lay on something slightly lighter-hearted on the Friday evening, and so this year CVHF came up with something entirely new: a brand new history quiz show, combining deep historical knowledge with razor-sharp wit.

With panellists Ian Hislop, Neil Oliver, Dan Snow and Natalie Haynes locking horns under the watchful eyes of Charlie Higson as chair, here are some of the best photos courtesy of John E Fry from one of the more outrageous and irreverence events of the Festival.
