The Daily Mail Chalke Valley History Festival is now the largest festival in the world devoted entirely to History and is the only festival to combine living history entertainment and flypasts with literary talks and panels.

“The festival has been triumphant before but this year it was a double superbly outstanding triumph because of the pleasure, exhilaration, inspiration and fun that you provided for THOUSANDS of people despite the bizarrely obstructive weather.” Juliet Nicolson

Our speakers are of an immensely high calibre and have included Niall Ferguson, Antony Beevor, Kate Adie, Mark Knopfler, Ian Kershaw, Jung Chang, Michael Morpurgo, Jeremy Paxman, Dan Snow, Boris Johnson, WW2 fighter pilots, D-Day veterans and many others covering a wide range of topics which are complemented by the living history exhibitions, ancillary tents and stalls. In the evenings there is a long break for an excellent supper in the Dining Tent when the speakers, sponsors and their guests as well as much of the audience congregate.

“The green room was perfect, the food was great, the talks I saw were all very good, the planes were spiffing and the kids were rewarding. Congratulations” Sebastian Faulks

The Festival is owned by the Chalke Valley History Trust which we have set up to promote the understanding, importance and enjoyment of history to the widest possible audience of all ages. The main Trust activity thus far is furthering the history education of children by running a concurrent Festival for Schools for which we have a bursary scheme to enable pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend. Started in 2013, this was extended in 2014 to include a day for Primary Schools.
