Lots of events for the smaller historians!

Various locations | Various prices

As a family festival, we also include a lot of events and activities for children (but the adults always say they like them too!)

Tickets to the talks on Saturday and Sunday and to all the activities below give free entrance to all the Festival has to offer on that particular day – Living History encampments, Live History Live events, demonstrations and displays as well as flypasts of historic aircraft taking place on that day.

CHILDREN’S CREATIVE ACTIVITIES:

If you have children (aged 5 – 12), why not try the Children’s Creative Tent?

They’ll be entertained and educated for an hour. You can simply check them in and drop them off where they will be looked after by a group of teachers. Pick them up an hour later after you’ve enjoyed the sights or attended a talk. All teachers are fully referenced and hold DBS (CRB) certificates.

You can find out more here

HAVE-A-GO-ARCHERY:

Using real bows, arrows and traditional butts, anyone can have a go at using the longbow.

THE BROADCHALKE BUS:

Thorughout the festival weekend, there will be a ‘bus’ service from one end of the site to the other, via a WWII truck and a steam traction engine and wagon – all in aid of the Salisbury Hospital Stars Appeal.

MEDIEVAL WARFARE:

Throughout the festival weekend, Deeds of Arms will be running fully interactive sessions for children demonstrating medieval swords and armour.

SOLDIER SCHOOL:

In Soldier School, the budding Second World War recruit will be introduced to the uniforms and kit of the British Tommy – as well as a chance to see and handle some weapons from the machine-gun to firing mortars.

S.O.E. TRAINING

An exciting new addition to the programme and based on the very real training course used for would-be agents being dropped into Nazi-occupied Europe, the SOE Training Camp will include being introduced to techniques in unarmed combat, weapons handling and how to pick a lock, while students will also be put through an assault course that will test metal and nerve!  Pre-booked tickets only.

PROFESSOR STRANGE’S MAGIC SHOW

Fast, furious and funny, Professor Strange will weave a strange world of magic, fantasy, old vaudeville and carnival sideshows with a vibrant and modern twist. You’ll witness the strange and the impossible, the dangerous and the bizarre in a comedy magic show suitable for the whole family.

SWORD SCHOOL
